An HIV self-test may occasionally give an invalid result. This means that the test has not worked correctly and the result cannot be interpreted as either reactive or non-reactive.
For most rapid HIV tests, the result is invalid if the control line (C) does not appear. Always check the Instructions for Use supplied with your specific test, as result interpretation can differ between products.
If you receive an invalid result, do not rely on the test result. Repeat the test using a new test device and carefully follow the supplied instructions.
If you receive another invalid result, please contact us and provide the product and lot number where possible. We can help you determine the appropriate next step.
